Brunello di Montalcino Castiglion del Bosco

Brunello di Montalcino Castiglion del Bosco

Castiglion del Bosco winery and resort was revived by Massimo Ferragamo ( from the Ferragamo Fashion House) and is on our “Must Visit” winery list. The wines produced here are a beautiful, curvatious and elegant with a romatic flair just like the Italian actress Sophia Loren. Imagine vibrant ruby red color with garnet overtones, and on the nose and taste the typical varietal aromas a prime example of the Sangiovese grape’s expression of the territory of Montalcino.

The gorgeous vineyards of Val d’Orcia produce the most coveted Italian wines, the Brunello di Montalcino. Castiglion del Bosco is only 75 miles south of Florence in Tuscany. You can relax at the resort and go for day trips to admire the treausres of Florence. Massimo Ferragamo purchased the Estate and over the years restored to its former glory and the wines are consistently recognized for their excellence.
C: If you like to knew what Americas all-time favorite Italian wine is, a wonderful bottle estate, then join as today
J: Come with us to a Tuscan tasting sensation, we will be trying four beautiful wines from Castiglion del Bosco, located in Val d’ Orcia Montalcino’s north west area and this is about sixty miles south of Florence.
C: So we will start with a Brunello 2004, a Brunello 2006 and a 2007 Prima Pietra and a 2006 Dainero.
J: I cant wait to taste the Brunello, and the only permitted grape in Brunello di Montalcino is Sangiovese.
C: A 100 Percent Sangiovese, its like a Pinot grape, Sangiovese rosso. Brunello dates back to 1888, when Ferruccio Biondi Santi made the first bottle of Brunello.
J: Castiglion del Bosco has a long standing history, it goes back 8000 Years. And most recently in 2003 Massimo Ferragamo, from the Ferragamo Fashion House, purchased it. So let me open up the first one, a2004Brunello di Montalcino.
Look that beautiful elegant label.
C: This is the fortress in the town and before we open it take a look at the wine label: DOCG –Denominazione di origine controllata (and it translate to “Controlled designation of origin”)
J: Look at this gorgeous Brunello color: this matches my top. There you go, would you like to show the color, Corina?
C: Nice garnet red color.
J: Let it open a little bit, it’s a 2004 and you can actually lay down a Brunello di Montalcino for another 10 years.
C: An the nose I am getting a lot of dark cherry, berries.
J: Wild berries and a little bit of earth.
C: I am getting some lavender. MMM – the Tuscan countryside in a glass, so lets try this.
J: Cheers !!!
C: Cheers to you to – Salute! Its so velvety smooth, it is like warm from the inside as it goes down.
J: Its unbelievable, 2004 vintage, I that we need to decanter.
C: More cherry on the palate and I’m getting little bit of blue berry
J: The acidity is focused on the front of my tongue and this wine is very food friendly. Also the tannins getting softer and softer…
This wine is so elegant and nice curvy and the character matches Sophia Loren.
C: This is so velvety I’m giving 4.75
J: It is a beautiful wine my vote is 4.7
C: As to food pairing it would be great with grilled meats or
J: Braised beef or lamb just like they do in Tuscany

Cheers!
