Cavalier Bartolomeo winery

As we showed up without an appointment at Cavalier Bartolomeo’s cellar door in Italy he still smiling invited us for a taste. The winery is located in the hearth of Barolo, in the medival town of Castiglione Falletto, and in the small village called Garbelletta. It was founded in 1924 by Cavalier Bartolomeo’s grandfather. He had learned from his father how to make wine from estate grown grapes. Since then tree generations went by, and most of the vines have been replaced leaving only Nebbiolo vines the varietal for the famous Barolo.

“The wine cellar has been modernized. We now have better possibilities to control the alcoholic fermentation and we have also introduced aging in barriques.”

The farm is located in the heart of the Barolo area, in the town of Castiglione Falletto in the small village de Garbelletto, and is situated along the highway that goes towards Barolo from Alba, on the left 140 yrads before the ‘cross Barolo – La Morra

CASTILLIONE FALETTO

Castiglione was born as a Roman town. During the Middle Ages became a possession of the Marquis of Saluzzo, who erected an imposing quadrangular fortress on the hill.Now belonged to different families of feudal lords Aleramicis, Castiglione passed, at the fall of the Marquis of Saluzzo Gabriel, to France, and held it until 1601 when the Treaty of Lyons,Castiglione became a possession of Savoy in Piedmont. Since then, the country remained Piedmont House of Savoy until the Unification of Italy.In the religious field belonged to the diocese of Alba, from the beginning;in 1511 he joined the Diocese of Saluzzo, then went to Asti the time of reform made by Napoleon in 1817, returned to the diocese of Alba. The name Falletto was added to the queue name in 1589, when the family took Falletti worship.
